2008 Upcoming Events

Wednesday, February 13   Cozy Up with a Good Book Day

The entire school will participate in this activity. Students will need a book, slippers, and a small blanket or beach towel  so they will be "cozy". Students will read a book (or be read to) from 1:00 - 1:20.  After reading, students will each fill in a mitten with certain information:  title of the book they read, author's name, draw/write about a favorite part of the book, color/cut out the mitten. The mittens will be hanging outside each classroom.

Monday, March 4  Read Across America Day

To help celebrate this reading day, each classroom will have a special guest reader. Some time during the day a community helper, administrator, school staff or teacher will read a favorite book/story to the children.

Friday, April 18   Poetry Coffee House

The students will participate in a Poetry Coffee House activity. Students will be asked to write or choose a poem to share with their peers in small group settings. Grades 5 to 8 will share with each grade level in the old gym. Grades 1 to 4 will share in their individual classrooms.

Friday April 25               Reading Interest Inventory
In order to evaluate the interest in Reading at the offset of our Middle States project, we decided to administer a Reading Interest Inventory to the students of Saint Philip Neri School. A committee devised two different age appropriate surveys and they were scheduled to be administered in early March. One survey was designed for Grades 1 through 4 while a second was created for Grades 5 through 8. Each survey addressed the same questions and was ordered to provide easy data compilation. These statistics will be illustrated in the most beneficial way to depict the findings. From this information we will be able to determine the present Reading attitudes and preferences and that information will provide a baseline for determining attitudinal changes as a result of the project.
