What is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means "substitute money." When Saint Philip Neri members purchase Scrip, they are purchasing negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash. The retailers we purchase from want to support non-profit organizations and in return ask you to support them by shopping with Scrip at their stores. Because we purchase large amounts of Scrip from grocery stores and other retailers, they are able to offer a substantial discount.
Scrip is "Shopping Cart Fundraising."
The reason for the effectiveness of Scrip is simple: families produce revenue by making purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, and gifts can be purchased with Scrip.
Are the gift certificates difficult to use at the store?
Absolutely not! They are used just like cash; there is no delay at the checkout counter. Kohl's gift cards are even valid for paying your bill. They make excellent gift ideas.
How does the tuition credit work?
Every time you purchase gift certificates, you will instantly receive SPN tuition vouchers. The vouchers are worth $1.50 and are awarded for every $50 in purchases (3% of sale). So, if you purchase $200 in gift certificates, you will receive four tuition vouchers, each worth $1.50. The tuition vouchers are collected throughout the year (no expiration date), and can accompany your tuition payment for credit on your tuition bill. They are also transferable! This allows friends, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. to purchase gift certificates and give the SPN tuition vouchers to families with SPN school children.
How do I purchase the gift certificates?
Two convenient options are offered:
- The gift certificates are sold after all the Masses in the foyer of the Church.
- You can purchase through the Church Office, Monday through Friday (9am - 5pm). Please make your checks payable to "St. Philip Neri Scrip Program."
How can my purchases make a difference?
The true power of the Scrip Program is in the number of participants. For example: For a family that purchases $150 a week for one year, they will accumulate $234 in SPN tuition credit and contribute $156 directly to school. That's a total of $390 just for shopping - a task that needs to happen regardless! Now, just imagine the power of the program if we increase participation to 500 families. 500 families purchasing $150 a week for I year will amount to: $117, 000 in tuition credits and $ 78, 000 directly to school.
It's easy, it's convenient and it costs you NOTHING! Everyone wins! Please consider giving the SPN Scrip Program a try, you can't afford not to!
